Under the Radar: Conscious Route & True Note
Conscious Route and True Note are set to make waves with their new album Lost Routes, write Olaf Furniss and Derick Mackinnon
Later this month, Edinburgh-based Conscious Route and producer True Note will release their excellent new album Lost Routes, showcasing a range of genres and sounds, from hip-hop and grime to electronica and rock, with lyrics covering mental health and personal struggles as well as social and political commentary.
It’s an incredibly accomplished album, comprising 20 tracks and six short, interview-style skits. Channel 4 has already featured music from the album on its mini documentary series, Take Your Knee Off My Neck, in response to the killing of George Floyd. We predict a lot more media attention over the coming weeks and months.
Conscious Route and True Note also enlist the skills of some well-known musicians including soul-singer Geoffrey Williams, KT Tunstall’s drummer Cat Myers and the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra’s trombonist Chris Grieve.
Lost Routes is released on 20 October - listen and purchase at https://trueholdrecords.bandcamp.com/album/lost-routes
