Why can’t we accept that players will leave our favourite clubs?
Not for the first time, or probably the last, Celtic supporters need to get over themselves.
Players leave, managers leave. Other clubs will offer more money, bigger challenges, a change of scene, not playing Ross County four times. Most fans accept this, but not the uberfans of Parkhead, not when the Hoops are about to crack the atom, invent the wheel and go for ten-in-a-row.
So they get hold of an aerosol and, once they’d learned how to spell it and worked out it’s nothing to do with the Beatles song they like to sing, spray-paint “Judas” near the home of Kieran Tierney.
Peter Cormack, Peter Marinello, Colin Stein, Alex Cropley, John Brownlie, John Blackley – when they left my club I internalised the hurt, though Pat Stanton going from Hibs to the selfsame Celtic did prompt an angry letter to the Edinburgh sports final, the Pink, vowing never to return to Easter Road.
I was in my usual place the following week, of course, having concluded that the sign-off “Yours in dusgust” had rendered my complaint invalid.
