After seeing off Lincoln Red Imps and Willem II in the previous rounds – both away from home – Rangers have brought European football back to Ibrox for the one-off match to decide who enters tomorrow’s group stage draw in Nyon, Switzerland.

The home side reached the last 16 of the competition last season, going out to Bayer Leverkusen, and now host the Turkish Super Lij leaders Galatasaray – a name widely known and regarded in European football.

The Turkish giants have a plethora of talent in their ranks including Radamel Falcao and Ryan Babel who both start the match but Rangers will be hoping to make it a third consecutive year in the group stage of the competition under Steven Gerrard and confidence is high after a powerful victory in the SPFL Premiership at Motherwell on Sunday continued their place at the top of the league. They include Allan McGregor, keeping his place in goals, Alfredo Morelos in attack while Iannis Hagi and Borna Barisic are restored to the line-up.

Tonight’s match is eagerly anticipated with much on the line for both sides – and the Rangers manager even suggesting his transfer moves before Monday’s deadline could hinge on the result tonight. His Istanbul counterpart has said similar.

Thanks for joining us this evening.

Tomorrow’s draw in Nyon (at 12pm) will include both Rangers and Celtic as the Scottish co-efficient marches on.

Rangers see off the long balls and the match  finishes 2-1.

Rangers are in the group stages for a third time in three years and Scotland leap-frog Turkey in the co-efficient rankings, setting up an automatic Champions League place for the SPFL.

Galatasaray keep lobbing the ball forward with Rangers holding out on the edge of the box. Three minutes of injury time to be negotiated

87 - Subtitution Rangers

Cedric Itten replaces Alfredo Morelos.

The big Swiss forward jarred his knee in training yesterday and was a doubt for tonight’s game - but he could have a defensive shift as Galatasaray push for an equaliser.

It’s the first ever goal for a Turkish team at Ibrox, and it’s scored by Marcao. His backpost header sails across goal and beats McGregor. Five minutes to play.

Steven Gerrard and Fatih Terim are having words in the technical area as Cedric Itten waits to come on.

A swirling free-kick is sent to the backpost by Tavernier and Goldson just misses connection and the ball is bundled wide by Morelos behind the defender who didn’t know much about it but his reaction fires the ball into the advertising hoarding from three yards out.

Ryan Jack replaces Ianis Hagi as Rangers look to shore up the midfield and see the game out and progress for a third straight group stage campaign.

Filip Helander deals with the powerful substitute Mbaye Diagne and forces the ball out for a corner. The Swedish defender looks non-plussed as the forward goes to ground in the challenge

Morelos pulls a shot wide after cutting in off the right side.

The game’s settled down. Rangers have something to hold onto and can invite Galatasaray on a little, but they’re not getting too close to Allan McGregor’s penalty area.

Galatasaray take Belhanda and Ryan Babel off , replacing them with midfielders Omar Bayram and Okan Kocuk

64 - Yellow card - Belhanda

Galatasaray’s classy midfielder is cautioned - either for a dive on the edge of the box alongside Steven Davis, or for the angry reaction to the referee’s no-call.

It’s has last action of the game as he’s substituted with Ryan Babel

After a flowing move from Rangers’ goal kick to move the ball up the pitch Rangers add a second

Tavernier, who started it taking the ball on the touchline and progressing the ball forward and across to the left wing continues his run and is on the end of a Borna Barisic cross to head in the second and give Rangers comfort.

56 - Chance Galatasaray

Feghouli drops a ball from the right into the box and Falcao goes close but he’s forced out for a corner by Goldson close in.

Luyindama meets the corner but sends it wide across goal.
