Borna Barisic fitness doubts remain as Rangers defender misses Croatia match again
Rangers defender Borna Barisic was again missing from Croatia’s starting XI as doubts persist over his fitness ahead of Saturday’s clash with Celtic.
The 27-year-old left-back has been an integral part of the Gers’ team this season, but he was forced off against Ross County last weekend after picking up an injury and despite being summoned for international duty, Barisic has not featured in any of Croats’ matchday squad during the international break.
Barisic has become the No.1 left-back for the Vatreni due to his stellar performances at Ibrox, but he missed Thursday’s Nations League match against Switzerland and was again absent for Sunday’s clash with Sweden. Croatia are also due to face France on Wednesday.
Rangers coach Gary McAllister played down fears over Barisic’s fitness after the County match, but there will be some concern over whether he will be fit for the trip to Celtic Park on Saturday.
Calvin Bassey will be expected to fill in for Rangers should Barisic be ruled out.
