SPFL League Two Stenhousemuir invite The Wire's Clay Davis for Ochilview visit
Michael Palin faces competition of being SPFL League Two side Stenhousemuir’s most famous fan.
The Ochilview club have extended an invite to The Wire actor Isiah Whitlock Junior to visit the club’s home ground and offered to send him a football shirt in the club colours after he mentioned them on Twitter.
The actor, who played charismatic politician Clay Davis in the award-winning HBO blockbuster series, replied to a message on the social media platform referencing the Dunfermline and Hearts match being played live on BBC on Friday night. Whitlock Jnr – who also perfomed in Disney’s Cars 3 movie, replied “When they’re playing Stenhousemuir, let me know”, and sparking an invitation from the welcoming Warriors.
Chief executive Jamie Swinney said: “Officially welcome at the home of the Warriors when (a) it’s safe to do so, (b) it suits you. See you at Ochilview soon.”
The club’s official account added: “We look forward to welcoming you to the club. This calls for a selfie with a Warriors shirt – what size?”
Monty Python’s Michael Palin is currently regarded as Stenhousemuir’s most famous fan, as is long-distance athlete Brendan Foster – but Whitlock Jnr could give them both a run for their money.
The travel broadcaster and writer had dropped in on the club more than a decade ago and bought a shirt and more recently donated to a crowd-funding appeal to help buy two players and keeps an eye on results from afar.
Stenhousemuir lost 1-2 to Annan Athletic on Saturday in a League Two match shown on the club’s Warriors TV. Max Wright scored twice, but Mark McGuigan was on target for the Warriors
