Hearts players to wear No.26 during Scottish Cup final as tribute to Marius Zaliukas
Hearts have announced that every player in this weekend’s Scottish Cup final will wear the number 26 on the front of their shorts as a tribute to the late former captain Marius Zaliukas.
The Lithuanian sadly passed away in late October after a battle with motor neurone disease. He was just 36.
His death was confirmed during his old club’s semi-final victory over Hibs in late October. It was the first time the two Edinburgh rivals had played at the national stadium since Zaliukas captained the Tynecastle club to a 5-1 victory in the 2012 final.
Hearts return to Hampden this Sunday for their meeting with Celtic as the two clubs meet in the showdown encounter for the second season in succession.
It was confirmed by Hearts ‘Twitter account that the players will sport Zaliukas’ old squad number during the match.
The tweet read: “This Sunday at Hampden, every player will wear no. 26 on the front of their shorts in memory of Marius.”
