Hearts confirm the signing of former Celtic and Aberdeen ace Gary Mackay-Steven
Hearts have completed the signing of Gary Mackay-Steven on a two-and-a-half-year deal, the club have announced.
The ex-Dundee United, Celtic and Aberdeen winger becomes the Tynecastle side’s first signing of January and immediately fills the need for another winger, something manager Robbie Neilson has been vocal in recruiting during this window.
The 30-year-old has spent the last 18 months playing in MLS with New York City. It is understood that Mackay-Steven turned down the chance to return to Aberdeen for a second spell to join Robbie Neilson’s side.
He takes the No.17 shirt for the remainder of the 2020/21 campaign and will go straight into the squad once the club have received international clearance.
The Thurso-born star started his professional career at Airdrie after being in Fulham’s youth academy. He then left for Dundee United where he enjoyed four sparkling seasons before moving to Celtic. After helping the Parkhead side to three league titles and one League Cup, he left for Aberdeen in 2017.
