The 18-year-old looked bright and energetic and posed an attacking threat as he helped Bologna to get off the mark in Serie A this season.

He was occasionally on the end of some rough treatment by Parma and was unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty in the first half.

Hickey, who was courted by Bayern Munich before opting to join Bologna, was substituted on 79 minutes and received a rousing reception from the limited number of supporters inside the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.

The fixture is known as the Derby dell'Emilia and Bologna won the local skirmish thanks to two first-half goals from Roberto Soriano and second-half strikes by Andreas Skov Olsen and Rodrigo Palacio.

Parma, who pulled a goal back through Hernani, were reduced to ten men with 15 minutes remaining following the dismissal of Simone Iacoponi.

It was an impressive performance from Siniša Mihajlović’s side who lost their opening Serie A match to AC Milan last week.
