Win for Celtic goalkeeper ahead of Hibs re-match with midfielder
Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas made a winning returned to action with a 2-1 international friendly victory in Athens this afternoon.
The £4.5m Greek had not played since the 3-1 defeat to AC Milan in the Europa League on October 22 but was in goal for his country’s win over neighbours Cyprus.
Facing him for the first half was Hibs’ midfielder Alex Gogic – and the two could cross paths again in just 10 days’ time with the Easter Road side scheduled to be Celtic’s next SPFL opponents after the international break.
Before then Barkas has further international duties against Moldova and Slovenia in the Nations League after this friendly win.
Greece took the lead after only eight minutes through Christos Tzolis then On 17 minutes the hosts doubled their lead at the Giorgios Kamaras Stadium, through Giorgios Giakoumakis.
It wasn’t to be a clean sheet for Barkas though as Marios Elias pulled one back just before the hour-mark.
