  • Rangers move four points clear at the top of the table.
  • Celtic have a game in hand

This is your one-stop shop for everything to do with the first Old Firm match of the season as Celtic host rivals Rangers at Celtic Park.

We’ll have team news, play-by-play action, manager reaction, fan reaction and analysis of a big match in the 2019/20 title race as Celtic look to take a step closer toward 10-in-a-row by moving above their rivals in the table, while Rangers have the opportunity to open up a four-point gap at the top.

Kick-off is at half past 12. We’ll bring you the teams once they’re announced at 11.15.

There’s rumours swirling online that Christopher Jullien is absent from today’s game through injury, paving the way for young defender Stephen Welsh to come into the back three. Also, a leaked team suggests both Odsonne Edouard and Albian Ajeti will be missing from the starting XI with Mohamed Elyounoussi and Patryk Klimala in attack.

There’s not long to wait now for the teams to be made public… but there’s still much talk over both - particulatly Celtic’s line-up.

Is the leaked formation correct?

Here, Andrew Smith looks at ‘the great unknown’

Analysis: Could Leigh Griffths and Patryk Klimala be Celtic strikeforce against Rangers?

The great unknown about the Celtic team that will face Rangers centres around who will play upfront for the Scottish champions.

One thing that is more likely than the quandries of the Celtic support is Rangers’ attack. It’s widely accepted Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent will both be involved in Steven Gerrard’s plans from the start… and after a summer of speculation for the pair, that wasn’t always a given… and the Colombian’s future involvement still isn’t.

'Not totally through woods yet' - New Celtic atmosphere challenge and Alfredo Morelos for Steven Gerrard

Unique. Different. Strange. Just when Rangers were encouraged to believe they had finally got to grips with the Celtic Park atmosphere, they will encounter something completely different in the first Old Firm clash of this season.

It’s in and the rumours were true.

Baptism of fire for 20-year-old Stephen Welsh.

Few surprises from Steven Gerrard.  Barisic and Helander’s international break injuries haven’t hampered their involvement and Kamara it’s Ryan Jack to miss out in the three-man midfield.

As you’ll be well aware this is an Old Firm game like no other with no fans allowed under the COVID-19 restrictions.

So all will be watching at home, with the First Minister appealing for viewers to watch in small groups and avoid travel or large gatherings.

Both team bosses echoed her appeal at their press conferences yesterday, and as the Sky Sports coverage prepares to start, here’s what the Rangers manger said about the current situation with fans locked out of grounds.

Steven Gerrard: Why football must be made free-to-air during a pandemic

Steven Gerrard believes governments should ensure football is broadcast to free while restrictions are imposed during the current pandemic.

While Celtic have drafted in Steven Welsh for a start and are pitching in Diego Laxalt for a debut too, Rangers do appear to have a wealth of options to hand.

The bench has 126 international caps between them - albeit 57 of them belong to Jermain Defoe. Only Calvin Bassey has not had a senior international appearance.

What a fabulous occasion for Steven Welsh. Peter Grant made a debut at Ibrox in 1984 and went on to make 300 appearances for the club. He’ll know what it means and will want  to come in with a big performance.

Sure, the fans can’t be there but in social media there’s been support for both sides and some from the most unlikeliest of quarters.

The Albanian president is a well known Celtic fan and is backing the Bhoys

But even more surprising, Rangers have also been backed… by Sam Mitchell from Eastenders actress Danniella Westbrook!

It feels like all eyes are on this one with the top spot in the SPFL Premiership up for grabs… but it’s not the only show in town even though it feels like it.

Here’s what Stenhousemuir chairman Iain McMenemy said as the lower leagues prepare to kick-off their campaigns at 3pm.

Iain McMenemy: Celtic v Rangers has stolen the limelight from what should be our weekend

The start of the new season has arrived. For teams in the Scottish Championship, Leagues 1 and 2, this weekend sees the opening fixtures take place in the new league campaigns.

IN QUOTES: Diego Laxalt

He’s an experienced player but there’s nothing he hasn’t seen before. He’s played Serie A for a long time and has great game intelligence.

Neil Lennon, Celtic manager

IN QUOTES: Steven Gerrard on the Old Firm derby

Today will be about who gets the small details right. We can tap into our performances against Celtic - we found the performances, maybe not the results. We have to be ready for what is thrown at us today.
