"In calling for this seditious act, the President has committed an unspeakable assault on our nation and our people.

"I join the Senate Democrat leader in calling on the Vice President to remove this President by immediately invoking the 25th Amendment.

"If the Vice President and the cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment.

Nancy Pelosi has called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked.

"That is the overwhelming sentiment of my caucus, and the American people by the way.”

Ms Pelosi is not the first politician to call for this, with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Senate Democrat leader Chuck Schumer and Republican former States Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao all backing the 25th.

The 25th Amendment allows the Vice President to declare the President "unable to discharge the powers and duties.”

This comes after Trump supporters stormed Capitol Building on Wednesday in Washington.

Four people died in the incident, and several police officers injured.

President Trump was asked several times throughout Wednesday to call a halt to his supporters and they charged at police officers.

He released one Tweet and one video asking for peace, and told his supporters: “we love you.”
