Tay Road Bridge reopened after police incident closes road in both directions
Police reported the closure in the early hours of Monday morning.
Early morning commuters in Tayside faced lengthy delays as the Tay Road Bridge was closed after reports of concern for a woman on the bridge.
The bridge, which carries traffic across the Firth of Tay from Newport-on-Tay in Fife to Dundee, was shut in both directions as authorities attended the scene on Monday morning.
The Tay Road Bridge twitter account first reported the closure at 03:25 today.
The bridge was reopened around 6:30am.
Police thanked the public for avoiding the area.
In a statement, a police spokesperson said: “Police Scotland received a report of concern for a person on the Tay Bridge shortly after 3am on Monday, 31 August.
“The woman has been traced safely. The bridge was closed as a precaution while officers attended and has since reopened.”
