Coronavirus in Scotland: 13 test positive at Glasgow Diageo site
A total of 13 people working at a packing plant for one of the world’s biggest drinks producers have tested positive for coronavirus.
The cases were confirmed at Diageo’s Shieldhall site in Glasgow this week.
The outbreak affected 13 contractors who were working at the whisky giant’s packaging plant.
Diageo stressed strict measures are in place to ensure those who need to self-isolate have been told and stringent protocols are in place to ensure the safety of staff.
A Diageo spokesperson said: “The health and well-being of our people, suppliers and the community is our number one priority. We have stringent protocols and procedures in place to ensure our workplaces are as safe as possible.
"We can confirm that twelve employees from one of our logistics contractors and one other contractor at our Shieldhall packaging plant have tested positive for Covid-19 over the past week.
"All safety protocols and procedures have been followed, including a deep clean sanitation of the relevant area and detailed contact tracing.
"A number of other individuals have been asked to self-isolate as a precaution and additional control measures have been put in place to prevent on-site transmission. We continue to monitor the situation very carefully and we are in touch with the relevant authorities.”
